Can I visit or volunteer with the project? We truly appreciate your interest in getting involved! Because of the sensitive nature of our research and the remote locations we work in, we’re unable to offer public volunteer opportunities or site visits at this time. That said, we’re actively exploring new ways to connect with the public—including workshops, presentations, and virtual events. In addition, the Voyageurs Wolf Project has begun hosting annual field expeditions, where a small group of participants can join Tom Gable, Austin Homkes, and our research team for a two-day experience in the Greater Voyageurs Ecosystem of northern Minnesota. During this immersive trip, you'll learn firsthand how we study and track wolves in the Northwoods and gain a deeper understanding of wolf ecology and field research. Does the Voyageurs Wolf Project have any volunteer positions or internships? We’re often asked about internships, volunteer work, and how to get involved with the Voyageurs Wolf Project. While we do not offer traditional internships or volunteer opportunities, there are still ways to engage with and support our work—and potentially work with us in the field. Does the Voyageurs Wolf Project sell merchandise? We don’t have an online store just yet—but we’re working on it! A brand new Voyageurs Wolf Project store is set to launch in summer 2025, where you’ll be able to purchase official merch like t-shirts, hoodies, stickers, hats, and more. All proceeds will directly support our research and outreach efforts. Stay tuned!
-
How is the Voyageurs Wolf Project funded? Our work is funded through a combination of grants, private donations, and proceeds from events. We do not receive consistent federal or state funding, so public support plays a critical role in allowing us to conduct field research, deploy equipment, and share educational content. Every donation—big or small—helps us! Additionally, we would like to thank the Environment & Natural Resources Trust Fund for the continued support of our project.
-
What types of trail cameras does the Voyageurs Wolf Project use?Over the years, we’ve used a variety of brands and models, but our go-to brand is Browning. Specifically, we use Browning Spec Ops cameras: the Advantage, Edge, and Elite models. These cameras are chosen for their excellent resolution, durability, and detection range, making them ideal for capturing high-quality footage in different environments. We currently use Browning Spec Ops Elite HP5 cameras. They work great and highly recommend them!

Why did I not receive a sticker after donating?First and foremost, thanks so much for your generosity and donating to the project - We really appreciate the support! If you did not receive a sticker within 2-3 months after donating during our sticker campaign, please contact us. Our sincere apologies that you did not receive your sticker. Anyone who donated will be sent a sticker, so there must have been some mailing related issue (we have had a few similar issues in the past). Also, please let us know what the best mailing address is. We will work on sending you one right away!

Where can I learn more about your research or publications? We regularly share updates, videos, and findings on our social media platforms and website. You can also view a list of our peer-reviewed publications on our Publications page. We're committed to making science accessible to everyone, so we aim to translate our research into engaging stories for all audiences.
